Small businesses are vital to Georgia’s economy, driving local investment and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs across the state. They provide essential income for families and offer flexible employment options—from part‑time and temporary roles to supplemental work. For many young Georgians, small businesses also serve as the entry point to their first job, helping develop the state’s future workforce.
Each year, the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (UGA SBDC) publishes its annual “Small Business and its Impact on Georgia” report to highlight the economic influence of small businesses and emerging industry trend. This publication provides key data on Georgia’s 1.4 million small businesses, including insights into business owner and employee demographics and how the state’s shifting population trends may shape the future of small business.
