Strategic guidance helps Thomasville cheesemakers grow and thrive

Two people standing together in a cheese aging facility, surrounded by metal racks filled with round wheels of cheese, both wearing work shirts and hair coverings.

Raised on a South Georgia farm, Jessica Little never expected to return home—but a passion for cheesemaking and sustainable agriculture led her back to help grow Sweet Grass Dairy into a nationally recognized artisan cheese producer. With support from the UGA SBDC, the Littles expanded their creamery, added dozens of jobs, increased sales, and successfully navigated growth challenges, positioning the business for continued success in competitive retail markets.

Tasting success at Qualusi Vineyards

Hidden amid suburban growth near Cobb Parkway, a multigenerational family farm took an unexpected turn toward winemaking. Facing financing challenges despite decades of agricultural experience, the Gilberts transformed part of their 500-acre property into Qualusi Vineyards with help from the UGA SBDC. The result is a thriving vineyard and event space that has quickly exceeded expectations and become a regional destination.
