This course is designed specifically for small business owners and entrepreneurs seeking to understand and access various funding options.

The course will discuss the ins and outs of the different types of capital, including SBA-guaranteed loans, traditional bank loans, non-traditional funding sources, equity, and little-known specialty lending programs, and weigh the pros and cons of each.

The course will also highlight the financial management strategies that help owners think like a lender and ensure their business is lender-ready.

  • Evaluate the various types of financing available for small businesses
  • Determine the advantages and disadvantages of the different forms of capital as it relates to your business
  • Implement financial management best practices

Howard Dent

Howard Dent is the Specialty Programs Manager at the UGA SBDC. He brings 25-plus years of experience in banking, finance, and entrepreneurship.  Prior to his role with the SBDC, Howard held positions at Accenture, Credit Suisse, and Wells Fargo & Co., where he and his team were responsible for raising over $3 billion in capital.   Howard was the founder and Managing Principal of a mortgage finance company, overseeing all daily operations.  Before that, he founded and operated a specialty-finance consultancy.   In his current role, Howard works with businesses in the areas of procurement, certifications, financial management and capital formation.
