University of Georgia Small Business Development Center in Columbus client, Kevin Boykin, CEO of Path-Tec LLC in Midland, Georgia, has been named the 2017 Georgia Small Business Person of the Year.
“It is my honor and distinct pleasure to announce the 54 winners from across the U.S. and its territories,” U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator, Linda McMahon said.
“These small business owners define entrepreneurial spirit and best represent the 28 million small businesses that are the backbone and economic engine for today’s economy. I look forward to welcoming the winners to Washington next month when they are officially honored for their achievements.”
Path-Tec is a medical logistics company that specializes in the packaging, transport and tracking of laboratory specimens. Kevin Boykin, an air force veteran, founded the company in 2005 in a cramped rental storage unit. Today, Path-Tec owns a 130,000 square-foot facility and employs more than 150 workers.
All of the Small Business Person of the Year winners from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands have been invited to attend ceremonies in Washington, D.C on April 30 – May 1 where they will be honored with their individual award along with recognition of the three runners-up and the naming of the 2017 National Small Business Person of the Year.
This isn’t Path-Tec’s first national recognition though. In 2012, Inc. Magazine ranked PathTec NO. 1065 (http://www.inc.com/profile/pathtec) on its sixth annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastestgrowing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent entrepreneurs. Unified Payments tops this year’s list. PathTec joins Yelp, yogurt maker Chobani, Giftcards.com, KIND and famed hatmaker Tilly’s, among other prominent brands featured on this year’s list.

In 2015, PathTec was also recognized as one of the 2015 top 40 fastest growing middlemarket companies in the state of Georgia. The award is given yearly by ACG Atlanta, the Atlanta Chapter of The Association for Corporate Growth.
PathTec, founded in 2005, was recognized as a top 20 company among companies with revenues between $15 million and $60 million.
